JUDGING

Margrit Multhaupt, Judge "Featured Breed" Angora Goat Show, and Mohair Fleece Contest

Margrit has been involved with fiber and yarns since a young child. She learned to spin and weave as a young adult practicing on the fiber from her Persian cats and New Foundland dog. In 1975 she and her husband purchased their first Angora Goats. Coming from Texas, it took until 1976 for the goats to pass all the importation blood tests and exams necessary at that time. She went back to Texas several times after picking up her goats, to take classes from the Mohair council, colleges, and knowledgeable breeders. Later bringing judges up from Texas, she and other local angora goat breeders were able to have their flocks evaluated and continue learning about the animal and the mohair it produces. Judging animals herself while being mentored by an official judge, she later took an official course. Because she uses the mohair she produces to spin, and process into fiber art, she knows first hand the importance of genetics and selection. She labels herself a "Mohair Maniac"
