The featured breed this year will be Angora Goats. We invite you this year to send in anything made from mohair and we will mount a special show featuring the fiber from angora goats in the contest area. If you would rather send something mohair for the contest that would be fine also but the same rules for entry will apply as for other contests. To send just for show there will be no entry fee.

Wool fleece should be rolled neck side out, in a large clear plastic bag.

For each fleece, put the age of sheep, goat, llama, or alpaca, breed of sheep or goat, weight of fleece, date shorn, and your age category on one side of a 3 by 5 card. On the other side, put your name, address, phone number and email. Fold card with the name side in and attach to the fleece.

IF YOU WISH THE FLEECE TO BE FOR SALE, ATTACH A SEPARATE CARD WITH A PRICE ON IT.


POPULAR VOTE FLEECE CLASS

This year for the first time the Vt Sheep and Wool Festival is giving you an opportunity to vote for the fleece you like the most. Please stop by the Contest area and fill out a ballot for the fleece you think is the best. Voting ends at 12 Noon Sunday with winner identified shortly thereafter. Come join the fun and judge for yourself.


SKEIN & GARMENT COMPETITION RULES

1. A maximum of two entries per category will be accepted from each entrant.

2. Competitions are restricted to animal fibers only, unless otherwise stated.

3. Each handspun article (garment or other item) must be spun and constructed by the entrant alone.

4. Work must have been completed since the 2003 Vermont festival

5. All articles must be clean and unworn/unused.

6. No machine knitted items allowed.

7. Articles will be judged on suitability of yarn for project, workmanship & overall impression.

8. Each handspun skein must contain a minimum of 2 oz. of handspun fiber for bulky & dk or worsted, 1oz. for sport weight. Each skein must be 1 1/2 to 2 yards in circumference, wound neatly and tied in at least 3 places. Failure to do so will disqualify the skein from being judged.

9. Skeins will be judged on consistency of spinning and plying, appropriate hand and overall quality.

10. The judges reserve the right to reassign entries to a more appropriate category.

11. The judges’ decisions are final.

12. Each entry must be accompanied by a 3x5 card, folded in half and taped closed. On the inside

PRINT CLEARLY: Entrant’s Name, Address, Telephone Number and email. On the outside

PRINT CLEARLY: Contest Category and Age Category (Adult or Youth).

13. Definition of Adult - age 18 & up as of 1/1/04; of Youth - up to age 18 as of 1/1/04.

14. Entries must be received at the Festival site before 10:00 am on Saturday, October 2, 2004, accompanied by above-mentioned 3x5 card, a completed entry form and a check/money order for total entry fees, made out to Vermont Sheep & Goat Association.

15. Entries may also be mailed, to be received no later than September 25, 2004. Mail to: Suzanne Wallis, 154 Blood Hill Rd, Norwich, VT 05055. All mailed entries must be accompanied by all required forms and fees.

16. All entries must be displayed until 3:00 pm on Sunday, October 3, 2004. Entries removed before this time will forfeit any awards or premiums earned. Contestants must make their own arrangements for items to be picked up between 3:00 and 4:00 pm on Sunday, October 3, 2004.

*Entries will be returned by mail upon request if a self addressed and stamped mailer is included in the entry.

17. The Vermont Sheep & Wool Festival Committee will make every effort to display and care for show entries, but assumes no responsibility in the event of damage or loss of entries.

18. All judging will take place Saturday morning, October 2, 2004 and should be completed before

12:00 noon. Contest area will be closed to spectators during this time.

19. ENTRY FEES: $2.00 per item. Checks made payable to: VSGA.


COMPETITION PREMIUMS

Ribbons will be awarded to first, second & third place winners in each Division Class. Cash Premiums, offered by Vermont Sheep and Goat Association, will be awarded to First and Second Place winners for each Division Class.

Youth entries First Place - $4.00 Second Place - $2.00

Best skein award by Northeast Handspinner’s Association (NHA).
