Animal Pen Rental Agreement and Application

The Vermont Sheep Breeders¹ Association (VSBA) again sponsors

this year¹s festival at the Champlain Valley Exposition. We will be pretty

much following the State of Vermont and CVE Health Standards. Which I hope

will be easier for everyone to understand. We hope that the festival will

meet the needs of more groups of people and individuals, including those who

not only raise other fiber animals, but as sheep producers interested in

more than just the fiber. As usual we will be having a breed display,

Sheep, Angora Goats, Llamas and Alpacas, rabbits, and any other fiber or

meat animals people wish to register and bring.

Each exhibitor is encouraged to prepare a pen display to

accompany his or her animals. Displays may explain the history or

characteristics of the breed/animal. Highlight the producer¹s farm or

breeding program, or depict any other aspect of the animals, which the

exhibitor may feel is interesting and informative. The Educational value

of these displays is important in encouraging interest and support for our

animals and our products. It is really important to include you name,

address, phone number, and e-mail, if you have it. This breed display can

result in many contacts and future sales. To that end. VSBA will allow

exhibitors to sell animals to interested parties by private treaty sales.

No commission will be charged.

Please read the following agreement carefully, and then save

this page for future reference. Knowing the rules and regulations of the

festival could mean the difference between having a pen and making

considerable money selling your animals and not being allowed to unload your

animals, so please read carefully and observe the following. Note that the

fee schedule has changed and will include a space for those of you not

renting vendor space to display your product as well as have a place to sit,

NO SALES CAN BE MADE FROM A DISPLAY SPACE: There is not enough room to set

up chairs in the area around the pens so a display area will be required for

each non-vendor animal pen.

1: The registration fee for a 5 x 5 pen to include a display space

is $20 all additional 5 x 5 spaces will be $10.00. For a 10 x 10 pen (which

is four times the size), the registration is $50. for the first space and

$40.00 for each additional space Contracts received after August 15, 2002

will be charged a 50% surcharge.

2. No more than three animals are allowed per pen. (Please use you

own judgment here: if you have very large sheep, it may be more humane to

just have two animals per pen.) The only animals allowed in the pens or the

tents or on the festival grounds are animals in the breed display, in the

youth show, and at the Shearer¹s invitation for shearing demos. If you are

out promenading your animals, please do not walk them inside the other Barns

All Animals carry germs from there own farms on their feet, at the least,

and our goal is to minimize animal-to-animal contact and exposure to

organisms from other farms.

3. All sheep and goats must have a scrapie tag, in accordance with

the new mandatory federal scrapie regulations. (All animals for exhibition,

all breeding animals, all interstate sales animals, check with your state

vet or your local vet for these tags, and how to get on board with this

program. FYI, Vermont State Veterinarian phone number is 802-828-2421. The

nearest APHIS office for Vermonters is in Mass; 508-865-1421. Toll Free

Number is 866-873-2824)

All animals must be inspected by a vet of their choice within 10 days of the

festival (THIS IS OUR RULE, A BIT MORE STRINGENT THAN STATE RULES ON PURPOSE

TO MAKE THIS A HEALTHY AND SECURE PLACE TO BRING YOUR ANIMALS.) OR can be

inspected by our vet on Saturday morning, between 8 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. for

a small fee. You must have your rabies certificate for this service(Please

be advised that if you choose this option, we reserve the right to refuse

animals admission on the advice of our vet

Our contracted veterinarian will make rounds and inspect all animals on

Saturday morning, and reserves the right to exclude any animal not meeting

our standards, as well as the federal and state regulations. The VSBA and

their appointed Vet will be the sole judge of the fitness of any animal and

its judgment shall be final. NO GOATS OR SHEEP WILL BE ALLOWED INTO THE

FESTIVAL GROUNDS WITHOUT A SCRAPIE TAG!

Out of state animals are required to have official individual identification

and an Import Permit with their Certificate of Veterinary Inspection.

4. Producer agrees not to make false or misleading representations

about any animal.

5. Exhibitors may use their discretion in designing pen displays but

signs and display boards may not block the view of adjacent pens. Pen

displays are for educational purposes only. Producers wishing to sell their

products, other than sheep, must reserve booth space.

6. Disclaimer: The VSBA and Champlain Valley Exposition shall not

be liable for any injury or damage to any person, animal, or property

resulting from any cause whatsoever, whether occurring on or off the

premises. In the event of a private treaty sale, the following disclaimer

applies: the VSBA and Champlain Valley Exposition act as neither producer¹s

or buyer¹s agent, and while striving to attract quality animals, make no

warranties, express or implied, as to the quality, fitness, health, or

condition of any animal, and buyer¹s sole remedy shall be against the

producer.

For our part: The VSBA will examine every animal; A Vet will check every

animal Saturday morning. There will be someone in/around the Animals at all

times to answer questions and to supervise, including overnights. No one

will be allowed in with the Animals after 6:00 p.m. Saturday night, except

those who wish to check on their own animals. At that point, the animals

need rest and a respite from being on display. We will water the animals

each morning early, and check them frequently during the night. There will

be someone sleeping right next to the Animal area to guard as well as

possible against predators, two legged and four legged varieties. If animal

owners have booth spaces, they will be, next to pens, so owners can watch

both pens and booths, should they wish to do so.

These rules and regulations will be enforced. All unloading must be done

within these times. Trucks and cars, except those who have applied

beforehand for reasons of infirmity or handicap, must be removed from the

festival grounds by 9:30 am each morning and parked in the authorized area

reserved for vendors and producers. Please remember. No Dogs allowed on

festival grounds.

All animals must be removed from Festival Pens by 5:30 pm on Sunday.

understanding that I must contact Debbie Kirby with any questions or

problems. I understand that I will not be able to bring my vehicle into the

festival grounds except in the time frames indicated, and I will remove my

vehicles by 8:30 p.m. on Friday and/or by 9:30 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

I will abide by the rules applying to animals, and graciously accept the

decisions of the VSBA and Vet as final. I will act with courtesy and
